What are the benefits of fishing for Grayling?

Grayling is species of fish related to the Salmon family. They are generally fished in the autumn months, during which time feeding heavily increases in order to bulk up for the cold winter months ahead. By fishing for Grayling, you can extend the fly fishing season throughout the winter period when lakes and rivers are closed for Trout fishing.

Fishing in the late autumn months has two key benefits. Firstly, as Grayling actively seek out food, their guard lowers because they are desperate to stock up on food for the winter, and bites become more frequent. Secondly, this is the time of year that they are at their largest. In order to survive the harsh winter months they need to bulk up; Not only is it cold, but food will become more scarce, so this is key to survival.

Trout flies can be used to fish for Grayling, although choose a bigger hook (lower number) due to their size.
