When should I fish with the Sawyer's Grey Goose?

This graph shows trends of when fly fishermen use the Sawyer's Grey Goose to fish with and what hooks are most popular throughout the fly-fishing season.

About the Sawyer's Grey Goose Trout Fly

Frank Sawyer created this pattern for rivers as an imitation of nymphs, the pale watery blue winged olive and the spurwing. He recommended it to be fished fairly deep.

Sawyer "Induced the Take" by allowing his Grey Goose to sink to the river's bed and imitate the naturals by raising it temptingly just off the bottom

It is a favourite morsel for Trout and Grayling and works effectively in still waters if fished near the bottom on a slow figure of 8 retrieve on a long leader.

Expert Tip:

Frank Sawyer designed his nymphs based on an impression of the actual nymph rather than a copy.
Size and shape his main criteria and the clever use of materials were his tools.
