Top Ten Flies for August 2018

So far this summer has been a scorcher, up until last week where the rain gave us a much needed breather by cooling the air and water. Weather reports say this may not be the end to the hot weather, however the shorter days should aid fishing at dawn and dusk when the water is coolest and water activity is at its peak.

The mixture in heat has really shaken up the F4F chart. When fishing in hotter temperatures you either want to sink to a depth in the water where fish are retreating (due to lack of oxygen on the surface), fish in the morning or evening when cooler, or choose areas containing clusters of vegetation which can provide vital oxygen into the water which fish seek out.

Below in this month's chart contains a great selection of patterns for you experiment with these techniques!
