About the Wickham's Fancy Trout Fly

The Wickham was originally intended as a dry fly for the clear chalk streams of southern England.

It has proven successful since the 1880's when it was first created but on much more varied waters.

Often the only fly trout will look at when they are smutting.

The wet Wickham's fancy is a good general purpose still water fly

Expert Tip:

Two members of the Wickham fammily claim the Wickham Fancy to be their creation, however G E M Skues supported Dr T C Wickham claim.

Records state that in 1884 George Currell claimed to be the first professional to have tied it.

Pattern Dressings

  • Hook : 12-16.
  • Thread : Brown.
  • Tail : Ginger or red cock hackle fibres.
  • Body : Flat gold tinsel.
  • Body Hackle : Ginger or red cock hackle fibres 'palmered'.
  • Wing : Starling.
  • Hackle : Ginger or red cock.
