This fly is justly a permanent resident in fly boxes world wide.
Expert Tip:
James Wright created the 'Greenwell's Glory' in May 1854 to imitate an insect he had never seen himself!
He worked from a description given to him by Canon Greenwell to create 'Greewell's Glory' which during the first two days it was used 'nearly emptied the river'.

Pattern Dressings
- Hook 12-18.
- Thread : Yellow or primrose.
- Body : Waxed yellow tying thread.
- Wing : Starling.
- Hackle : Coch-y-bonduo.
The wing was originally the inside of a blackbird's wing. With minor alterations in the shade of body and wing, Greenwell's Glory can be seen to represent almost all olives and many of the pale wateries.
